Nightguards or Biteguards
A nightguard or biteguard is designed to prevent damage to teeth
and is often used to treat patients with tempromandibular joint dysfunction or
TMJ. Nightgaurds are made out of a soft inner material and hard
outer material and are very comfortable to wear.
Patients who grind or clench their teeth during the day or evening
are often prescribed a nightguard to protect teeth and fillings from
breakage due to the stress.
Procedure
- During the first visit an impression is taken of the patients upper and
lower teeth.
- A mold is created from the impression and sent to a laboratory to
have the biteguard made.
- A second visit to the office is necessary to adjust the biteguard for
a comfortable fit.
